About Margriet
After graduating in interior design and working as an interior designer for a number of years, I decided to follow my passion and took the step to develop myself as an illustrator. In 2008 my first children's book was published: Prinsesjes Bella and Bloem, written and illustrated by me. Since then I have been making illustrations for several children's picture books, magazines and for Sesame Street.
I get inspired by so many things, but mostly by looking at the characters of people and animals and how they go through their day to day life. While drawing for a new book, I like to visualize the main characters in the book. With curiosity and a sense of humor I imagine how they would live, what their thoughts and emotions might be and how they would behave in different kinds of situations.
My drawing inspiration comes from printing techniques and materials, patterns and structures from traditional and modern fabrics, Japanese art, especially the sumi-e technique.
